Our approach to prenatal care is unique because it is individualized, attentive, and proactive.
We screen for risk factors early on and work with you to minimize complications (such as pregnancy-induced high blood pressure & diabetes) or avoid them altogether using our integrative holistic approach.
This risk management and health optimization may include dietary supplements and/or medications (if necessary), as well as other forms of health support.
Expectant mothers are encouraged to attend our…
yoga classes to strengthen weak muscles and provide soothing relief for the discomforts that often accompany pregnancy.
We also have an exercise physiologist who can work with you to develop a personalized prenatal exercise routine.
No matter your situation, your prenatal care is individualized and we heavily incorporate your preferences into our management plan.
What to Expect
You will typically have 10 to 15 prenatal appointments during your pregnancy.
As soon as you have a positive home pregnancy test, you will come in for your first visit with Cheryl Riewe, NP to confirm your pregnancy. Cheryl is a certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in women’s health, with a focus on obstetrics.
At this time, she will order lab tests to assess your health and screen for opportunities to optimize your ability to have the healthiest pregnancy possible.
You will also get started on important prenatal dietary supplements.
At approximately 6 weeks gestation, you will return for an ultrasound to confirm your baby’s well-being.
At 10 weeks gestation, you will return for a complete assessment and physical exam. Your medical provider will review your labs and test results with you, answer your questions, hear your goals for your pregnancy, and let you know what to expect.
Recommendations may include taking additional supplements and/or medications (for example, for nausea). Your medical provider will also recommend a proactive pregnancy wellness plan that integrates the expertise of our multi-disciplinary team of professionals.
So, you will have the opportunity to take part in provider-recommended HolisticHealth Services™ to help manage medical risk factors and prevent pregnancy complications.
For most pregnancies, visits occur every 4 weeks until 28 weeks gestation. At each visit, we will measure your blood pressure, check your urine, address any concerns you have, and let you know what’s coming next.
At 20 Weeks, you will come in for an Anatomy Scan: an ultrasound to check up on your baby’s development. At this point, we should be able to determine your baby’s sex (if desired).
After your 28-Week appointment, prenatal visits will be every two weeks until 36 weeks gestation. Visits are then weekly until delivery.
The frequency of prenatal appointments increases in the third trimester because problems such as preeclampsia and fetal growth issues are more likely to occur during this time, so we want to be more vigilant.
Pregnant mothers will have more frequent visits if they are determined to be at high risk for preterm (early) delivery or if they have medical problems such as high blood pressure or diabetes.
Delivery & Post-Partum Care
Dr. Cavallo and/or Dr. Selio will take care of your delivery and follow-up with you in the hospital.
You will then have a post-partum visit with Cheryl approximately six weeks from your delivery date, in order to make sure you are recovering well and set up for success.
We are committed to providing up-to-date, evidence-based prenatal care in a warm, family-like environment.
When questions or concerns arise, we have a team to support you, addressing your needs and coordinating care between visits.
We look forward to meeting you!
