Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) Management

Our approach to PMS Management is unique because we address the underlying hormonal, dietary, and stress factors that contribute to your symptoms.

Once we have uncovered the root cause of your symptoms, we use an integrative holistic approach to treatment.

Our board-certified physicians and nurse practitioners, who have a strong foundation in traditional medicine, incorporate complementary medicine and lifestyle medicine into your care plan.

This unique approach, our years of experience, and the way we give our patients a voice in their own care allows us to achieve better outcomes than traditional medicine alone.

Symptoms

Symptoms Often Associated with PMS

Premenstrual syndrome, or PMS, is a group of physical, mental, and/or emotional symptoms that start one to two weeks before a woman’s menstrual period. The symptoms leave after menstruation begins.

Most women can identify with at least a few of the symptoms of PMS. However, some women suffering from PMS may have symptoms severe enough to disrupt their everyday lives and relationships.

Common symptoms include:

  • acne

  • breast tenderness

  • bloating

  • low back pressure/pain

  • fatigue

  • anger

  • depression

  • anxiety

  • cravings

  • insomnia

  • emotional volatility

  • loss of motivation

  • indecisiveness

  • self-defeating behavior

Getting "Unstuck"

What to Expect

Our initial goal is to confirm the diagnosis of PMS and check for other problems that may explain your symptoms.

Step One: Establish Care

To begin, you will have a New Patient Visit with one of our board-certified medical providers.

At this visit, your provider will address your concerns and perform an assessment, including a physical exam when needed. Labs and tests will be ordered at the end of this initial evaluation.

Step Two: Make a Plan

You will return for a Next Steps Visit where your provider will thoroughly review your labs and test results, answer your questions, and present treatment options.

Together, we decide on a plan that works best for you.

Once we have uncovered the issues that need to be addressed, recommendations may include progesterone therapy and taking appropriate supplements and/or other medications.

We combine this holistic medical treatment with lifestyle medicine practices known to address the underlying hormonal, dietary, and stress factors impacting your PMS symptoms.

Our HolisticHealth™ classes are designed to educate and empower you in this area.

You will leave with a personalized action plan that integrates the expertise of our multi-disciplinary team of professionals.

Step Three: Implement the Plan

In addition to participating in our provider-recommended HolisticHealth Services, most patients will follow-up with a provider every 3-4 months for the first year of care in order to:

  • check up on the original diagnosis (or diagnoses)

  • assess progress

  • review new symptoms

  • redraw labs if necessary

  • re-direct you toward an adjusted treatment plan
